I admire racing horses that are in olympic form
on the D day. They are spirited, dashing, nervous
and magnifically sinewy.

I wanted most of all, to fix them in bronze in the last
moments of a race. We notice even better their fine,
ciseled muscles when they have been racing,
their features are drawn, the nostrils widened,
as they seek the last gasps of ir before the final line
of arrival.
